Tool Tuesday: TL;DR

1st April 2014

Perhaps you’re like me, and you have the attention span of a gnat.  Or, maybe you’re just like most people, and you don’t have time to read today’s news, in depth.  That’s where this handy site comes in:  TL;DR.  (You may have seen that acronym before; it’s gaining popularity quickly across the web.  It stands for “Too Long; Didn’t Read.”) What this site does, in a nutshell:

We’re TL;DR — we give you the summary, the synopsis, the main contention and the entire idea in one simple paragraph. Enough to get you to skim them. Browse a week’s worth of topics in a few minutes. So you don’t have to say, “Too Long; Didn’t Read”. We’re the news, but faster. We pull the news from popular sites. And we have fun while we’re at it. (From TL;DR “About“)

Here’s a screenshot from the “Featured” page:

What does this mean to me, Laura?

  • News briefs are sorted into broad categories, so you can focus on those of interest to you.
  • Archives of past briefs are also available
  • You can also use iOS or Android apps
  • You can also get featured briefs via the site’s Twitter feed

And there you go–short and sweet.  After all, I wouldn’t want you to say “TL;DR.”
